WordPress Abilities API and MCP: How WriteWP Exposes Real Actions

Chat that only answers questions is outdated. WriteWP registers real WordPress abilities so agents can draft posts and import URLs under your admin permissions.

WordPress Abilities API and MCP: How WriteWP Exposes Real Actions

WordPress is growing a standard way for tools to expose actions: the Abilities API (6.9+). WriteWP registers real abilities so chat—and external agents via MCP—can do more than chat text.

What WriteWP registers

  • create-blog-post — draft from a brief through the Writer pipeline
  • import-url-as-post — fetch, rewrite, and queue a URL
  • list-posts — inspect existing content
  • get-site-context — read safe site context for better answers

Safety defaults

Abilities re-check admin capabilities. New posts land as drafts by default. That keeps agents useful without handing them a publish button by accident.

MCP clients

Install the free WordPress MCP Adapter to expose abilities to tools like Claude, Cursor, or ChatGPT. Agents authenticate with an application password. Check System → WriteWP Configuration for Abilities and MCP status.

See the full Abilities page for the product view.

If you want this workflow as a product instead of a pile of scripts, WriteWP’s feature set covers import, rewrite, free images, and schedules. See pricing or the docs for setup.
