How to Import RSS Feeds into WordPress with AI Rewriting
A practical walkthrough for turning RSS feeds into original WordPress drafts with AI—sources, keys, schedules, and what to check before you go hands-off.
Importing an RSS feed into WordPress is easy. Importing it as original, structured content is the hard part. This guide walks through a clean setup: connect an AI provider, add a feed, rewrite with your own keys, and only then turn on a schedule.
What you need
- WordPress 5.8+ (WriteWP is built for 7.0+) and an admin account
- An AI API key (OpenAI, Gemini, OpenRouter, MiniMax, OpenCode Zen) or a running Ollama host
- At least one RSS or Atom feed URL you have rights to reuse
Step 1 — Connect a provider
In WriteWP → Settings, add a primary provider and paste your key. Run a connection test before you import anything. Optionally set a fallback provider so a rate limit does not stop the queue.
Step 2 — Add the feed as a source
Open the Importer, add the feed URL, and let WriteWP detect RSS/Atom. Fetch once manually. Confirm titles and dates look right before you rewrite a full batch.
Step 3 — Rewrite a single draft
Import one article as a draft. Check headings, links, tone, and whether the rewrite is actually new language—not a light paraphrase. Adjust the prompt preset (news, how-to, reviews, and others) if the structure is wrong.
Step 4 — Turn on automation carefully
Only after manual imports look good, enable scheduling. Prefer drafts first. On low-traffic sites, point real system cron at wp-cron.php so schedules do not wait for random visits.
Step 5 — Watch duplicates and usage
