Documentation
Get started in minutes.
Everything you need to install, configure, and run WriteWP — from API keys to full automation.
Quick Start
Seven steps. Zero friction.
Follow these steps to go from zero to fully automated AI content in under ten minutes.
Step One
Install & Activate
Download the WriteWP plugin ZIP. In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin . Upload the ZIP and click Activate.
Step Two
Enter Your API Key
Navigate to WriteWP > Settings > AI Provider . Enter your API key for at least one provider: Gemini, OpenAI, Ollama, OpenRouter, or MiniMax. Save changes.
Step Three
Add Import Sources
Go to WriteWP > Importer . Click “Add Source”. Enter a WordPress site URL or RSS feed URL — WriteWP auto-detects the source type and fetches metadata automatically.
Step Four
Run Your First Import
Click “Fetch” on any source card. Articles are imported, rewritten by AI, and published (or saved as draft based on your Import settings).
Step Five
Try Write Mode
Go to WriteWP > Write . Enter a brief like “Best hiking trails in Colorado” and submit. AI generates a complete, publish-ready article in seconds.
Step Six
Enable Automation
Go to WriteWP > Settings > Automation . Set your schedule (hourly, twice daily, or daily). Toggle which sources should auto-import. WriteWP handles the rest.
Step Seven
Use AI Chat
Go to WriteWP > Chat . Access full conversational AI right inside your WordPress admin — with real-time streaming responses for brainstorming, editing, or research.

FAQ
Common questions.
Quick answers to the setup questions we hear most often.
Which AI provider should I use?
Start with whichever provider you already have an API key for. Gemini and OpenAI offer the best quality-to-cost ratio for content generation. Ollama is free if you run it locally but requires a capable GPU. OpenRouter gives you access to dozens of models through a single API key. MiniMax is ideal for multilingual content.
My API key isn’t being saved. What do I do?
Make sure you’re clicking “Save Changes” at the bottom of the AI Provider tab. If the issue persists, check your PHP error log for any write-permission issues on the database. Also confirm that the API key is valid by testing it in the provider’s own console or dashboard first.
Imported articles are publishing as drafts instead of live posts.
This is controlled under WriteWP > Settings > Import . Check the “Default Post Status” setting. If it’s set to “Draft”, articles will be saved as drafts until you manually publish them. Change it to “Published” if you want auto-publishing — but we recommend keeping it as Draft until you’ve reviewed a few AI-rewritten articles.
Can I use multiple AI providers at the same time?
Yes. You can enter API keys for as many providers as you’d like. The “Default Provider” setting in the AI Provider tab determines which one is used for Write mode and rewriting. You can also override the provider per-task in certain features. Having multiple keys configured also provides automatic failover if one provider’s API is temporarily down.
How does automation scheduling work?
WriteWP uses WordPress’s built-in WP-Cron system. When you select a schedule under WriteWP > Settings > Automation , the plugin registers a recurring event. On each trigger, it fetches new content from your enabled sources based on the per-source limits you’ve configured. If your site has low traffic, consider setting up a real server-side cron job to hit wp-cron.php for reliable scheduling.
Where can I get help if something goes wrong?
Start with the plugin’s debug log under WriteWP > Settings > Advanced — toggle “Debug Logging” on and reproduce the issue. Check the docs on writewp.com for troubleshooting guides. If you still need help, contact support at support@writewp.com or open a ticket through the WordPress.org plugin forum. Include your debug log output for faster resolution.
