Privacy Policy

WriteWP Privacy Policy. How we handle your data, API keys, and third-party services.

Privacy Policy

Effective May 2026

↳ Overview

Your privacy matters. This policy explains what data WriteWP collects, why, and how we protect it. We wrote this to be read by humans, not lawyers.

Information We Collect

We collect only what’s necessary for the plugin to work:

  • API Keys — Your AI provider API key (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic) to connect to their services. Encrypted with AES-256-GCM before storage.
  • WordPress Site Data — Post types, categories, authors, and existing content needed to perform imports and generate content.
  • Usage Data — Optional, via Freemius SDK: plugin version, WordPress version, PHP version, and general feature usage patterns. You can opt out at any time.

How We Use Information

  • API keys → authenticate with your chosen AI provider to generate and import content.
  • Site data → map your WordPress structure for accurate content imports.
  • Usage data (if opted in) → improve the plugin and fix bugs.

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond running and improving WriteWP.

API Key Security

Your API keys are the most sensitive data we handle. Here’s how we protect them:

  • AES-256-GCM encryption at rest — industry-standard authenticated encryption.
  • Keys are encrypted locally before storage and decrypted only when making API calls.
  • We never share, transmit, or expose your API keys to anyone — including ourselves. They stay between your site and your chosen AI provider.

Third-Party Services

AI Providers

WriteWP sends content requests to the AI provider you configure (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, etc.). Your prompts and generated content travel directly between your WordPress site and that provider. We don’t see or store it.

Freemius SDK

WriteWP uses Freemius for license management and optional analytics. Freemius may collect: WordPress version, PHP version, plugin version, and site URL. This data helps us deliver updates and support. Analytics are opt-in — you choose whether to share them during plugin activation. Learn more at freemius.com/privacy .

Data Storage

  • API keys and settings are stored in your WordPress database on your server .
  • Freemius stores licensing data on their infrastructure (if you activate a license).
  • We do not maintain a central database of user content or API keys.

Your Rights

  • Access — You can request a copy of any data we hold about you.
  • Deletion — You can request deletion of your data. Uninstalling the plugin removes locally stored data. Contact us to remove any Freemius-side data.
  • Opt-out — You can opt out of Freemius analytics at any time from the plugin settings.
